Celebrating Bryan Lee's birthday

Telling a captivating story
In modern time now, parents will not allow their children to be 'what will be will be', instead they prefer to 'take over' the destinations of their children. In their ambition to gear their children to academic excellence, they have to raise the cane to discipline their children, resulting in heavy caned marks on the hands and backs. These may leave a big scar on the childhood lives of the children. There are many parents who believe in spanking children to discipline them, because they themselves were brought up this way by their parents.
In our child care centre we run the opposite to this believes. Then you may ask, what methods and strategies do we have? If your question is on academic performance, then our answer is 'joyful learning'. If you equate joyful learning to joyful eating, you may get a better picture. Most often when we are in a joyous mood while eating, we may not notice the amount of food that we have consumed. If we have to eat an elephant, we have to take one bite at a time and also for our stomach to digest it. What if we are forced to finish off the elephant in a short time? The biological growth or transformation of the children, physically and mentally, needs time. Unlike a robot or a car where it can be fixed with some nuts or parts in a hurried manner.
If parents were to ask, what strategies to help children to be financially independent one day, then we have a book to write.Academic excellence is no guarantee that the children will have good wealth one day. There are three phases of learning namely academic, professional and financial that will enable one to be on the path to financial wealth.Even a child may not achieve the first two types of knowledge, he may earn more than his peers if he has master the latter knowledge.
There is a saying that the A class students will work for the C class students one day, while the B class student will be government servants. There is no need to justify this statement, as in today's transparent world, there is no wrong or right, only which is preferred.

Great lessons at Penang Bowl

Young happy bowlers
This is one moment that children are away from the comfort of their parents. Here they learnt how to wash themselves after passing motion at the toilet and buckled their belts properly. Some learnt to order their own meals at the cafeteria, pay the money and receive the change. One even learnt how to borrow money to buy his food! A few shared their food with others because they didn't bring any money. A few got light scolding from the caretaker for munching food at the bowling alley and carrying the balls around before their turn to play, without the protection of the teachers. A few fell humpty dumpty for disobeying orders by over stepping onto the slippery bowling alley.
First time for Gabrel
They learnt determination, to out beat their friends at the bowl. They learnt discipline, to wait for their turn They imitated the steps and styles from adult players in other lanes. They are curious of the automation in arranging the pins back after been knocked down. The are fascinated on how the bowling balls could be returned to them so quickly after being thrown. It was a whole new experience for the children and a great lesson indeed.
